Danganronpa 2x2 Monokuma and Monomi

Monokuma is the series mascot, the headmaster of the killing game, and the reason Jabberwock Island is not a normal vacation. Split black-and-white bear, jagged red eye, courtroom gavel energy. Danganronpa 2x2’s cinematic stills put him in headphones above a balloon-filled stage, which is the whole tone: cute, loud, lethal.

Monomi (Usami in teacher mode, Monomi after Monokuma rebrands her) is the pink rabbit who wanted this to be a bonding trip about Fragments of Hope. She is still on the official site’s hero collage. She will still lose arguments with the bear. That is the joke and the tragedy.

Japanese Monokuma — Wasabi Mizuta, announced October 2025. Mizuta has voiced Doraemon since 2005. The role previously belonged to Nobuyo Oyama, then Tarako (who died in 2024). 2x2 is the first mainline game to introduce this recast, so Japanese fans will hear a new growl even in Original mode.

Rules of the island, as the bear explains them

The official about page still uses the classic contract:

• The only way off the island is to kill a classmate and survive the Class Trial.
• If the class identifies the Blackened, the killer is punished.
• If the class is wrong, the remaining students pay.

Monokuma is the referee who enjoys both outcomes. Understanding him is not a lore sidequest; it is Class Trial literacy. He publishes the Monokuma File. He starts the trial. He executes the sentence. When the HUD says “TIME,” it is his clock.

What 2x2 changes about the host

• Art. New model, new tropical lighting, more 3D presence on the world map instead of a 2D stamp.
• Package. The Vacation Package includes Kidrobot Psycho Tropical Monokuma and Monomi figures. The bear is merch as much as antagonist. See editions.
• Modes. He hosts Original and Slayhem. Do not expect him to go easy because you already know 2012’s script. Slayhem exists so he can surprise the veterans.

What does not change: he is not a secret playable “main.” There is no Monokuma build. There is no two-player bear mode. Player count is 1, and you are Hajime.

How to watch him in trailers without getting spoiled

Monokuma trailers love execution silhouettes and catchphrases. You can watch the introduction trailer for tone. Skip random “all punishments” compilations if you are protecting Original. Those compilations are 2012.

Slayhem will almost certainly get new punishments. Until they are shown in a labeled 2x2 video, assume any execution you remember is Original-mode history.

The wiki favicon is a two-tone bear for a reason. If you only remember one silhouette from this game, it should be his. Just do not let that silhouette trick you into thinking Danganronpa 2x2 is a kids’ mascot title. The rating is Mature / PEGI 16. The balloons are a lie.
