Danganronpa 2x2 How Class Trials Work
High-speed debate: shoot the lie, vote the Blackened, survive the island.
Every Danganronpa chapter ends in a Class Trial, and Danganronpa 2x2 keeps that contract. You investigate a murder on Jabberwock Island, walk into the trial ground, and argue with the rest of Hope’s Peak until the class names a Blackened — or names the wrong person and pays for it.
This is not a fighting-game combo list. It is a reading test with a gun metaphor. The official site’s one-line pitch is the whole verb set: reveal the truth by shooting down contradictions.
The loop, in player language
- Collect — during investigation you pick up the Monokuma File, photos, weapons, alibis, and idle comments. Those become evidence.
- Load — in trial, evidence becomes Truth Bullets. You pick which bullet matches the lie you are hearing.
- Aim — a classmate’s statement highlights weak phrases. You shoot the phrase that contradicts a fact you hold.
- Push — later beats mix multiple-choice, logic dives, and frantic debate. The 2012 game called several of these minigames by flashy names; 2x2’s trailers still show the same energy with new art.
- Vote — the class chooses a culprit. Correct vote: the Blackened is punished. Wrong vote: the remaining students lose.
The Mikan trial screenshot on this page is the tone: timer in the corner, heart-style health, a statement about poisoning, a reticle waiting for you to disagree. We are not spoiling which case that is. We are showing the HUD you should expect.
How to get better before launch
You cannot grind a ladder. You can practice habits:
- Write two columns: said vs shown. If Mahiru’s photo and someone’s verbal timeline disagree, that disagreement is a bullet.
- Do not dump every bullet at the first highlight. The right sentence is usually the one that cannot be true if your item exists.
- Listen for absolute words. “Always,” “nobody,” “at that exact time.” Absolutes are where contradictions hide.
- Use the recap. When you are lost, the game historically lets you review. Pride is how people vote wrong.
- Watch one trailer for pacing, not for answers. The Nintendo Direct clip is enough to feel the rhythm.
If you are brand new, play a chapter of the old Goodbye Despair port or even Trigger Happy Havoc just to learn the verbs. Then stop before you spoil the island roster you still want fresh for Original.
What 2x2 is likely to keep vs change
Kept (officially described):
- Investigation → trial → punishment loop.
- Truth Bullet shooting as the signature action.
- Single player. You cannot bring a friend into the trial pod.
Changed or upgraded (officially described):
- Visuals and direction for modern hardware.
- A 3D world map feeding into investigations instead of a side-scrolling island strip.
- Two different case lists if you play both modes — same trial system, not the same murders.
Unconfirmed until you hold the build:
- Exact minigame roster and accessibility options.
- Whether PC mouse aim is strictly better than a pad. Specs only say mouse is supported on PC.
- How much the new “Slayhem items” change investigation. Trailers mention them; we will document them after launch, not invent a crafting tree.
Trial etiquette with friends (even though it is single-player)
People will stream this. If you watch together:
- Agree Original vs Slayhem before chapter 1. Cross-mode chat is how spoilers jump.
- Do not look up “the answer” on a phone. Half of those answers are 2012.
- Pause on the vote if someone needs a bathroom. The timer on screen is for the character, not your friendship.
For character voices you will hear shouting over the music, see the English cast list. For who to study first, see the watch list. For the broader onboarding, return to getting started.
Class Trial is the reason the game exists. Everything else on Jabberwock Island is the walk to the podium.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before you pre-order or pick a mode.
What is a Truth Bullet?
Evidence loaded as ammo. You fire it at a highlighted phrase that contradicts the fact. That is the series' main trial verb, and 2x2 still advertises it.
Can I fail a trial?
Historically, wrong votes are game overs (with continues). Treat 2x2 the same until a post-launch guide says otherwise.
Are Slayhem trials different mechanically?
Officially, Slayhem changes victims, culprits, and tricks — the case content — not the idea of shooting contradictions. We will note system gaps after release.
Is there a shared trial mode?
No. Player count is 1 on the product sheet.
